Blackburn:
Congratulations! So you want to learn to drive?
The minimum age at which you can legally drive a car on the public roads is 17. If you are in receipt of a full disability allowance, the minimum age is 16. You will need to apply for a provisional driving licence and to do this you must complete driving licence application form D1 (available from most post offices). Until the day you pass the practical part of the Driving Test you are not allowed to drive on your own. If you want to practice your driving with an accompanying driver, the accompanying driver must be at least 21 years of age and must have held (and still hold) a full UK licence for three years.
The Driving Test is split into two parts:
1) A computerised theory test of mainly multiple choice questions together with a video-based Hazard Perception Test (Advice/help given by Kay) Note: You must pass your Theory Test before you are allowed to apply for your Practical Test. The Practical Test must then be passed within 2 years of the Theory Test or the latter then becomes invalid.
2) A Practical Test of your driving ability, lasting about 40 minutes. You must pass BOTH parts before you can apply for a full driving licence.
Kay offers the choice of taking your Practical Driving Test in York or Malton
